William D. (Bill) Fritz is the author of this website and producer of the B-52 mission video and the “PROUD TO HAVE SERVED” auto magnet that can be seen elsewhere.

Bill is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force with 185 Arc Light / Bullet-shot missions;  three missions during LINEBACKER II including a mission as Ruby 1 on the third night into Hanoi. Bill retired in 1983 from HQUSAF/RD to pursue a career in the aerospace industry.

The mission video was created to show the the B-52 crews in their daily routine and portray their professional genre in the “Press-on” missions of Linebacker II that brought the Vietnam conflict to a close. While TAC served well, even in Linebacker, when true might was needed, SAC got the call and delivered.

The Magnet was created out of the feeling that today there are few enough of us that have served, and that we should announce to people around us that WE HAVE PROUDLY SERVED our country … in one of the finest USAF aircraft ever … to guarantee their freedom.

There is a blog page that initially has photos of the SAC Memorial Dedication Ceremony at the USAF Museum on 2 May, 2008, and of the banquet on the following night. Others with pictures of those events, or other events of note, are invited to make this a SAC page in the hope that some can rekindle old friendships of people with whom we entrusted our lives in dedicated pursuit of our mission.

As the SAC Memorial says, ” The cold war didn’t just end… it was won!”

Bill and his wife currently reside in a northern suburb of Dallas called (just) Plano, Texas .
